Notes from Producers K. Malbranck and C. Frank

'I was just left behind, to drink down the dregs of you,' the lyric that is sung over the chorus in 'Why Did You Make Me Care', recounts the sentiment of a character afflicted with heartache over lost love. The solemn and desolate tone of Beck Hansen's composition had us imagining the scene of a dark and dusty 1960s western film, which was the main inspiration for our arrangement. The collective sounds of the grit of an electric guitar, a triumphant trumpet, the warm colour of a marimba, a boisterous upright bass, brushes on a drum kit, ambient percussive objects, and a distressed interpretation of the lyrics, created the atmosphere for the swung western feel we had in mind.
