Notes from Producer Peter Powell:

I found this a very interesting piece to work on: The musical content of the composition is reminiscent of traditional folk music similar to that found in Ireland and Eastern Canada. Yet the lyrical content is somewhat cryptic and speaks to me of great depth. With lines like “The wolf is on the hill, the bird is in the briar, the thorn is on the rose and your time is on the wire,” Beck seems to be writing about the passage of life; we all have limited time, yet the world keeps turning just as it was before we were and just as it will when we are not.

In order to interpret this I chose to let the musical content guide most of my decisions and allow the lyrics to speak for themselves, therefore choosing an instrumentation reminiscent of the traditional music that this piece evokes and a tempo designed to get your foot tapping whilst hopefully still allowing the voice to remain at the forefront of the piece.
